On a rainy night where many doubted the potential to even play, every team had subs, and there were 50+ keen and ready to get wet and dirty for the love of the game.
On the beach side field, the winless Robina Blue were thought to have their hands full against the table topping RAM. But Robina came out with some fire in their belly, and romped the monkeys 8-1 to take the half. The Griffith squad showed up with the largest of numbers... two full lines of men, and this may have actually worked against them. With limited time to find a rhythm on the field, and too much time watching on the sideline. But I musn't take away from the efforts of Robina, as I've been told they played a sound 'team game' using every one. This team continues to improve every week, and this week certainly showed a great step. The second half evened out, but with the mammoth half time lead Robina cruised to a 14-7 victory and gave themselves their first 2 points of the season.
The roadside field displayed a similar battle to that of the US election.... Black vs. White. .. Saiko vs. Bob. Saiko was readied to face a zone defense for the first time, and were not let down. Right from the opening pull, WTB came down showing a 'puppy fence' zone. Saiko managed to split the difference, and get as many through as they did concede. The zone was certainly efficient, and required some stellar handling to get past in the wet and windy conditions. Saiko managed to control the pace of the game, but every time they got up by 2 or more WTB would show their grit and bring it back to within one. Solid play across the board from both teams... myself excluded... but special mention goes to Taryn Stratten in her first game with a handling role, certainly played above and beyond expectations. In the end Saiko was set to receive the disc with an 8-7 lead and time expiring. Score to win, or get scored on to tie. The Saiko was clinically patient in their last possession, slowly marching the disc down field until Santiago sent a 20yard high release backhand to a deep cutting Taryn from the handling position to seal the 9-7 victory.
On the same day as the US election, Black also beat White right here in Tallebudgera.

The table is starting to look very tight, RAM stays in second, but has the lowest point differential, WTB stays ahead of Robina based on head to head... though they are essentially in a dead heat. Have a see for yourselves.
